Objective: Explain how a specific environmental change can lead to extinction in a species.
Activity: Students create a 3D pyramid, research the wooly mammoth, trilobite or dinosaur, and answer questions about endangered species and extinction.
Extension: Use the activity as a springboard to talk about endangered species in your state, or the world (panda). Talk about the progress humans have made to save endangered species (blue whale).
The U.S. fish and wildlife service has a website where students can identify endangered species in their state. Find it at https://www.fws.gov/endangered/
