High School level. Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. This is a summative assignment of three parts, meant to assess a student on reading comprehension, inference, analysis, and synthesis. The first section asks a student to respond to reading questions based on personal connections - journaling style responses. The second questions probe deeper, asking students to evaluate various aspects of the books, frequently on a more figurative level, still responding in writing. The third section poses the greater challenge of asking students to apply their understanding of the novel, the characters, and the themes and apply this understanding in a new and creative way. In this third portion, students are given the option to explore topics through podcasts, visual arts, and more, in an effort to demonstrate their deeper comprehension of the novel's ideas.
