Ender's Game Pre-Reading Activity: Sharing Gifted Experiences

Ender's Game Pre-Reading Activity: Sharing Gifted Experiences
Product Description
The following handout or worksheet has five reader response questions that ask students to reflect on their own experiences as gifted learners and to activate their prior knowledge before reading Orson Scott Card's science fiction novel "Ender's Game," which features a gifted and frequently persecuted protagonist. Any of these questions can be used as journal prompts, could be extended as essay prompts, or can be used in a Socratic Seminar or informal small group sharing/whole class discussion. The questions in vary, but they ask students to consider the advantages and disadvantages to being gifted, what their gifted interests are, why they're in an honors English class (or reading an advanced work in a general education English class), and what are the pros and cons to open enrollment courses. It's an engaging activity and both students and you will learn a lot more about your students' personalities.
