Teachers: this inventory was created initially as a one page, quick glance to help determine prior knowledge and student understanding of subject concepts, both basic and advanced. It was designed to provide a quick snapshot of where a teacher needs to begin. It has since grown to include not only concepts being tested but, more importantly, concepts agreed upon through a county-wide collaboration of professionals brought together to determine which are "priority" standards for properly preparing 8th graders for high school RIGOR, and as an instrument of building endurance towards taking long assessments. Too often students either complain about anything that takes longer than the internet to load or simply shut down if it is less interesting than the latest hot social media gossip. It would make an excellent benchmark assessment to determine mastery, looking at the beginning, mid year, and pre state testing at the end of the year.
