An enduring issue is a challenge or problem that a society has faced and debated or discussed across time. An enduring issue is one that many societies have attempted to address with varying degrees of success. Enduring issue essays are beginning to be used in high stakes tests. In order to prepare students to identify an Enduring Issue and then write an essay on the enduring issue this product starts off with students looking at documents so that they can identify an enduring issue. Identifying an enduring issue in a set of documents is the first step before students can then find what the documents share in common and then write an essay.

This product provides a lesson plan along with supporting materials introducing students how to identify an enduring issue in documents.
