For Part 3 of the new NYS Global History and Geography II Regents Exam!
Throughout the school year I have tried many different graphic organizers to help students plan their essays. The biggest problem I have found was that they were too complex for students to duplicate on their own when it comes time to take the test. So, I came up with the idea of having students drawing a timeline and organizing their essay as so! This helps to show the continuity of the issue over time which is part of the task! I also include several key elements for each document they use that help students to contextualize, analyze, and include relevant outside information! It is something that students can quickly sketch out that doesn't require memorization of a chart and won't take up too much of their precious time during the Regents exam.
In this download, you will receive the timeline as a pdf, which I gave as a handout to my students to keep for reference. You will also receive a template of the organizer in a Word document so that it can be edited or used, like I have, on Google Docs with students filling it in.
In addition to this, I have included other resources that I have given to my students such as an essay checklist and a PowerPoint presentation regarding NYSED's list of enduring issues as outlined in the NYS Social Studies Framework - the big ones and the issues nested within them. This is uploaded in the format of a slides presentation as well as the slides in a pdf so it can easily be printed for students. Each issue has an attached blank side for students to write in related topics that they have covered so far.
So, in total, you will receive:
- the timeline graphic organizer (pdf and Word format)
- the essay checklist
- The NYSED outline of enduring issues (PPT and pdf packet)
These are things that I have been using and have been working in my classroom. I hope they can help you too!
Please do not hesitate to ask any questions you may have.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated!
