This social skills lesson is to be used in conjunction with Derek Munson's book Enemy Pie. The attached document contains 18 scenarios, which I cut apart into strips, as well as a two-page document with a writing/drawing activity.
After reading the story, I showed my students two cooking bowls and spoons. One would be used to make enemies and one would be used to make friends. Their job was to add the ingredients! Taking turns, each child selected one of the scenario strips, read it aloud, and explained which recipe it should go in. They then put it in the appropriate bowl and stir it up! Great for hands on learning!
Afterwards, we discussed ideas of things enemies/bullies might do and things that good friends do. I copied the two pie pages back to back and had students complete the sentences "To make Enemy Pie, add:" and "To make Friendship Pie: add" with one of the examples we discussed. They then completed the activity by drawing a picture of their ideas inside the pie outlines.
This social skills lesson was a great addition to our discussions about bullying!
