HS PS3-1 Create a computational model to calculate the change in the energy of one component in a system when the change in energy of the other component(s) and energy flows in and out of the system are known.

This activity starts with an introduction reading to heat and energy as well as using spreadsheets to analyze data, along with discussion questions. Then students are walked through how to make their own computational model (or the model can be provided here: Energy Calculation Computational Model). After students have created their spreadsheets and entered in the formulas, students are walked through how to enter data to determine unknowns.

At the end, there are practice problems with an answer key for students to practice using their computational models.
