This lesson activity has a variety of uses to help students practice identifying and applying energy sources. There are two activities included, which gives you the option to use it as a stand alone interactive notebook activity or as a sorter memory game notebook activity.
To use as a notebook activity solely:
Follow the directions at the top of Activity 1: Pages 1 and 2.
Have students cut out the pictures and match them to the appropriate energy source.
Then, students can write a brief definition or description of each energy source.
To use as a memory game:
Cut out the images and sticky note cards from Activity 2: Pages 1 & 2.
Mix them up and lay them all face down on the table.
Students can work in groups to take turns flipping over two cards at a time trying to make a match with an energy source and it's corresponding picture.
If a match is made, the student places the two cards in front of them and goes again. If no match is made, the cards are placed back face down in the same spot and the next person takes his or her turn.
Once all cards have a match, students then follow the directions on the top of the sticky notes page to glue the pieces down into their notebook and write a brief definition or description of each energy source.
This activity provides students with an opportunity to discuss, debate, and engage in conversations about the energy sources, which leads them to a better understanding of the concept.
