Energy Unit: This is a 406 slide PPT covering an entire Energy unit, focusing on thermal energy. This is specifically tied to North Carolina Essential Standards, or NC Essential Standards for 6th grade. The PPT is designed to cover in detail the unpacked standards.
However, this also is an awesome teaching tool for any Energy unit focusing on Thermal Energy.
Included in the PPT are:
-assessments (pre-test for the unit, post test for the unit, 3 vocab quizzes),
-assessment keys-print off of unpacked standards for plan book
-guided notes for students who need modifications with answer keys
-4 graphic organizers
-1 flow map ( I use this as an outline for a bulletin board),
- 2 worksheets
-2 mini labs (easy labs to use in a classroom with limited supplies)
-4 demonstrations and write up sheet
-guided video notes (must have discovery education account to access two of the videos)
-unit PowerPoint teaching in detail the unpacked standards of this entire unit, necessary background information, and digging deep areas! Things that I require my students to write in their notes are in red.
The unit covers:
-what is energy
-4 types of Energy Transfer: Mechanical, Thermal, Electromagnetic Waves, and Electrical.
-The difference between heat and temperature
-thermal equilibrium , thermal expansion,
-The focus in on thermal energy and the different ways thermal energy can transfer (conduction, convection, and radiation).
-Conductors and insulators are covered
-Energy Conservation: energy can’t be created or destroyed, it only changes form
-the sun is our major source of energy/light
-light as a type of energy traveling as an electromagnetic wave
-properties of light
-the different interactions light can go through when in contact with matter
-Ultraviolet Light, Infrared Light, and Visible Light
-the influence light has on an objects temperature.
-Opaque, Translucent and Transparent
*This is a bundled unit of all of the individual energy products I have listed and more!
Check out my bundled word wall that goes along with this unit!
