Rationale: This project will develop the students understanding of energy sources and how they are used to power a city. This project will be a cooperative group project that will build cooperative group skills, research skills, planning skills, and presentation skills. This project is set up for allowing students to work within their particular strengths.
After completing the energy webquests, the student will successfully complete an individual task relating to developing an energy plan for a hypothetical city.
The student will work cooperatively in a group to develop an energy plan to present in class that will contain two renewable and one non-renewable sources of energy.
Pre-assessment: Students should be prepared to work on this project in advanced. It may be necessary to evaluate internet-use skills, and access to the internet at home before beginning this project. If any student does not have access to the internet, this project should be block as a computer lab.
Procedure: Explain the project in depth. Have model examples available to students. Divide students into diverse groups. Instruct them meet with their group members, and allow the first period to be dedicated to group set-up, naming, and role-assigning. The second period the students should view the webquest. Post it to a location on the web so students can have access to it in school and at home. Assign a timeline for completion. It should be done in steps (i.e. researcher completed by end of first week, etc..) with the final presentation set-up for 3 to 4 weeks after the beginning of the project.
Assessment: This webquest contains a rubric for grading with a break-down of point assignment. Refer to the rubrics for assessment.
