Engage your students in three different resources that completely cover 5-LS2, Ecosystems: Interactions, Energy and Dynamics! Each student centered resource is print and go ready with NO PREP! You step back as the facilitator as they collaborate and learn in a fun yet rigorous way!
- Students begin with reading an informational text about Antarctica's food chain throughout the seasons. Next, students answer comprehension questions before cutting out pictures of species to create a model of Antarctica's food chain. Finally, students write a presentation to explain their food chain model. Answer key included!
- Students collaborate in groups as they move through six different stations. Each station provides students with an easy to read informative passage about one part of the energy pyramid along with diagrams or illustrations. Students complete a booklet page for each station as well as color and draw examples on their energy pyramid poster. Easy to follow directions are provided in the booklet so your can simply facilitate student centered learning. Rubric included on the last page of the booklet for quick and easy grading. Poster is guaranteed to be hit when hung in your classroom or hallway!
- Cover the concept of food webs in an engaging, student centered way! Students watch a video of ecosystems before being divided into groups of four to complete guided research about one component of an assigned food web. Extensive list of websites provided for student research. Students then complete a jigsaw where one group member teacher the others about their category. Finally, students bring their work together to create a food web poster! Food webs should be taught after students learn about food chains and optimally after energy pyramids. Excellent to hang up to show off student work in the classroom or hallway!
