Purpose of Unit:
The purpose of this unit is to provide students with numerous learning opportunities to explore the concept of energy, as it is a vital part of our daily lives. Students will gain knowledge and understanding of how different energy is used, how to use less energy, how energy makes things happen, and the importance of the sun. Students will be assessed using criteria from the achievement chart as outlined by the science and technology curriculum to ensure student success. The unit will begin with a broad understanding of what energy is, where it comes from and how it is used. From there students will explore various topics which will allow the students to expand their understanding and deeper their appreciation for energy. Also students will develop an action plan for using less energy within our classroom, which will provide purposeful and meaningful connections between curriculum expectations and real life scenarios.
