This lesson has been adapted to fit balanced math instructional format with 10 minutes of basic facts, review, and new instruction. Included in bundle are lessons 1 and 2 covering multiplying by patterns of 10, 100, and 1,000 along with estimation of multi digit multiplication.
When teaching word problems, my district uses VEPS (V- visualize E- equation P- procedure S- solve). I have found these steps very powerful for students. It assists them in determining what operation they will be using which is often the most difficult part for students.
