This is a printable skills test that aligns with standards covered in Engage New York's 5th Grade Module 3. These are arithmetic problems that assess students' procedural knowledge without heavy language burdens. There are two, short word problems at the end.
I created this skills test to use in my 5th grade math class. I found my students struggled with the language in the assessments in the Engage New York mathematics curriculum, even though they did well in the lessons and with the exit tickets. The questions in this skills test get at standards covered in Engage New York Module 2 without multi-part word problems. I use as a replacement for the End-of-Module Test from Engage NY to assess my students.
- Adding fractions and mixed numbers with unlike denominators (with and without regrouping)
- Subtracting fractions and mixed numbers with unlike denominators (with and without renaming)
- Combining like terms to add or subtract fractions and mixed numbers mentally
- Embedded Skills: simplifying fractions to lowest terms, converting improper fractions to mixed numbers
- Single step word problem
- Two step word problem
I hope you find this useful for your teaching as well!
