I have never known my students better and therefore been better able to teach them than I have when I have sent this letter home to parents. This is the easiest thing I've done that has yielded the best results in the long run. It was also a fantastic way to find classroom volunteers! This is ideal for sending out at the beginning of the year, but this can be done at any time. This activity is mapped to the Charlotte Danielson framework to demonstrate how it supports best teaching practices.
1. To engage parents and guardians in their students’ learning.
2. To initiate positive dialogue with parents and guardians, thereby developing a partnership approach to teaching.
3. To gain helpful insight about your students to better inform your teaching.
4. To obtain parent’s and guardian’s best contact information and to ensure they know how to reach you as well.
