Our district adopted the EngageNY curriculum for both math and ELA starting this year. The materials are free through the EngageNY website, but the materials only consist of Teacher Instructions.
My 7th graders needed something much more concrete.
So I began a system of creating Student Activity Packets, which include graphic organizers for each activity, writing assignment break-downs, vocabulary practice worksheets, etc. I've also been designing and revising a method for assessing the material. Currently, I collect the classwork as a packet, and use the Cover Sheet to show the students what skills they're doing well with and which they still struggle with.
This packet accompanies EngageNY's 7th Grade ELA Reading Closely Unit, Part Two only. Reading Closely contains texts about arctic explorers.
In this packet, you will find:
Student Worksheets to Accompany each lesson
Guiding Question/Text-Specific Question Posters
Vocabulary Practice worksheet
A Small Group Exercise for Writing Skills (with Teacher Demo)
Assessment Cover Sheet for grading
I currently have packets for the entire Reading Closely Unit. Check back later in the year as I will have to design packets for the Making Evidence-Based Claims Unit and Module 1: Sudan.
