Our district adopted the EngageNY curriculum for both math and ELA starting three years ago. The materials are free through the EngageNY website, but the materials only consist of Teacher Instructions.
My 7th graders needed something much more concrete.
So I began a system of creating Student Activity Packets, which include graphic organizers for each activity, writing assignment break-downs, vocabulary practice worksheets, Power Point Presentations for background information, etc.
This resource is the entire unit of materials for the Evidence-Based unit on Cesar Chavez. The student packets follow the script precisely and the materials include the various activities in a user-friendly format, some made by EngageNY and some made by me for and with students while working through the unit.
There are 53 pages here which include:
EBC (Evidence-Based Claims) Packet #1
EBC Packet/Lessons 2-5
EBC Interpreting Your Writing Samples
Complex Claim Graphic Organizer (plus, Modified Version)
EBC Text-Dep Questions for Practice (Small Group)
A "Silly Claims" Exercise to get used to Working with Claims
Graphic Org for Complex Claims - Intro's and Conclusions
Graphic Org - Forming an EBC
End of Unit Wrap-Up with Movie Clips ... and a few other resources
I currently have packets for the entire Reading Closely Unit, (Antarctica), Module 1 (A Long Walk to Water) and Module 2A (Lyddie) as well as Module 3, Frederick Douglass. For most units, lessons can be purchased individually or as a bundle.
