Our district adopted the EngageNY curriculum for both math and ELA starting this year. The materials are free through the EngageNY website, but the materials only consist of Teacher Instructions.
My 7th graders needed something much more concrete.
So I began a system of creating Student Activity Packets, which include graphic organizers for each activity, writing assignment break-downs, vocabulary practice worksheets, etc. I've also been designing and revising a method for assessing the material.
These pages are in addition to the Student Packets.
In these pages, you will find each lesson's vocabulary words broken into lists, including their definitions. The definitions match the word's meaning in the novel. Each list has two parts: the "Academic Vocabulary" and the "World Vocabulary."
We use these lists as Bookmarks. For example, we hand out a Bookmark at the start of class so the students have the vocabulary at their fingertips when they need it.
I currently have packets for the entire Reading Closely Unit. Check back later in the year as I will have to design packets for the remainder of Module 1: Long Walk to Water and Module 2b.
