This is a great activity to use when practicing determining the author's purpose. You may use it as a worksheet or as a hands-on activity. As the latter, I cut up the sentences and invite the students to place them in cups representing "To Inform," "To Persuade," and "To Entertain." Students will have fun reading the sentences and deciding what the author's purpose would be of the story the sentence describes. There are 30 sentences. Answer key included. (PDF File).
