Before beginning your Romeo and Juliet unit, engage your students with an interactive lesson. Students will first learn about the major themes of Romeo and Juliet. Then in groups, students will perform skits representing the idea of their assigned theme. From this lesson, students learn the major themes of Romeo and Juliet, and they can apply their knowledge and interpretation of the themes while reading the play. After defining and acting their themes, students will respond to a writing prompt that ties the themes back to Shakespeare's play.
This is a one day lesson that students will enjoy, AND they will learn!
This lesson is common core aligned: reading, writing, and speaking standards are addressed.
You will also receive an exit card if you choose to take a grade or an assessment for this lesson.
