This booklet is a great way for students to share their learning and creations when studying the engineer design process. This booklet is meant to support students when explaining a project that they have designed and built. Students can follow the steps in the design process to determine a problem, design multiple solutions to the problem, choose the best design, and build a model.
This booklet supports the studying of the following Next Generation Science Standards:
3‐5‐ETS1‐1 Define a simple design problem reflecting a need or a want that includes specified criteria for success and constraints on materials, time, or cost.
3‐5‐ETS1‐2 Generate and compare multiple possible solutions to a problem based on how well each is likely to meet the criteria and constraints of the problem.
3‐5 ETS1‐3 Plan and carry out fair tests in which variables are controlled and failure points are considered to identify aspects of a model or prototype that can be improved.
Product includes questions prompting students to explain and validate their designs, as well as a page to list the definition of design process and the steps in the design process. Answer key for the last page is included. All other questions are open-ended questions that will have different answers for every student.
