Product Description

Are you promoting STEM in your classroom? Encourage your students to think like an engineer with this fun and colorful engineering themed bulletin board. It's a great reference for students when they are working through the engineering design process.

This display is perfect to hang at the start of school and leave it up the entire year. If you don't get it up at the start of school, you can add it any time throughout the year.

Please see the cover image above and thumbnail images to get a better idea of what the finished bulletin board display might look like. I hung mine in a circular shape (as you can see in the image), but you could also hang in horizontally with one step on top of another. I run the STEM lab for grades 3-5 for my school (and teach math), and I have this on display in the lab. It could easily be displayed on a bulletin board in a regular classroom.

I want to be clear that I have a border around my display that I did not create. You can see it in the thumbnail image. It's a border that I purchased, and I have included a link within the pack so you can see where I purchased it (just in case you want that for your board). It is not an affiliate link, I'm simply sharing it with you in case you like the look and want to recreate it. Any solid border would work just fine.

What does this pack include?

  • Title: The title says "Engineering Design Process". Simply print the pages and cut around the border of each letter. They letters have a square border for easy cutting.
  • Subtitle: The subtitle says "Think like an engineer." Print the words, line them up to form a sentence and staple to the board. I hung mine right below the title.
  • Arrows: Arrows are included and can be used to show the movement from one step to another.
  • 7 Cards with the 7 steps: The following cards are included.
  • Ask
  • Imagine
  • Plan
  • Create
  • Test
  • Improve
  • Share
    • 7 descriptions or thinking cue cards: (one for each of the 7 steps)
  • What is the problem you are trying to solve? (ask)
  • What are some ways you might solve the problem? (imagine)
  • What idea do you like best? Select one. (plan)
  • How will you turn your idea into a reality? Make it. (create)
  • Evaluate your creation. Did it work like expected? (test)
  • What changes need to be made to make it better? (improve)
  • Present your findings. (share)
  • There are fun images on each of the cards. For example, the 'ask' card has a question mark. The 'idea card' has a though bubble with gears and a guy who is thinking. On the description/cue cards there are colorful gear images.

    What else should I know?

I included 2 formats of the description/cue cards. One has a gear image that hangs off of the card (I used this one). It is more tedious to cut, but I like the look better. The other version has all gear images within the border, so all you have to do is cut around the black line. The cutting is very simple on those cards. I know some teachers prefer not to have tedious cutting.

My kids get so excited when we go through the engineering design process. This bulletin board display really does give them a fun visual that they can refer to throughout the year. Enjoy!
