The Engineering Design Process
is a cyclical procedure in which children can discover with inquiry. While it can sometimes be scary to let children take the reins and lead the learning, the process is best served when led by children.
This planner can be used by you, the teacher, to help plan your lesson, or you can give it to the children to have them document their learning in the following steps:
What is the hypothesis? What do you want to learn?
Make a prediction for possible answers to your questions.
Figure out how you will answer your questions. What do you need? How will you test your hypothesis?
Follow the plan. You may need to try it several different ways.
Did your plan work? What plan worked best? Why? How could you change your plan to get the answer you predicted? Do you have a new hypothesis as the result of your creation?
