Description of Project:
This project comes as an easy, step-by-step classroom activity that walks students through the scientific method. Great for classes where engineering is a standard and you are looking for a creative and inexpensive activity that allows students to manipulate and create.
In partner groups, students will create, test and improve a house made entirely out of toothpicks and mini marshmallows, that will be able to support the weight of a 1000 gram object. Students will use this activity to explore the engineering process.
1 piece of cardboard 3x3in
-30 toothpicks per partner group
-20 small marshmallows per partner group
- Have 2 days to build
- A set of increasing weights Piece economy hooked weight set*
For general science and physics laboratory work
Set includes one each of 10g, 50g, 100g, 500g and 1000g, two each of 20g, and 200g weights
*This can be replaced with any weight or object of your choice
Goal: to have students design, engineer, test and improve a structure of their own creation
