This video guide is for The History Channel's popular Engineering an Empire: Carthage documentary video (individual episodes are available on YouTube, or DVDs can be purchased from the History Channel, or Amazon.com). The guide is divided into five sections which covers the birth, growth and major developments of this remarkable North African trading empire.
Much of it focuses on the Punic Wars, in which Carthage and Rome fought for Mediterranean dominance. There is a strong focus on the legendary Carthaginian general Hannibal. There are a total of 25 narrative questions with fill in the blank answers that span the 45 minute video. The narrative question format is designed to focus and engage the students throughout the video, and to allow for followup discussion. Included is a teachers key with answers and time codes for starting and stopping the video at each of the major sections.
This is an outstanding activity to integrate into an Ancient Rome unit because of its focus on the Punic Wars.
