This video guide is for The History Channel's popular and exciting Engineering an Empire: Greece - The Age of Alexander documentary video (individual episodes are available on YouTube, or DVDs can be purchased from the History Channel). The guide is divided into five sections which covers the rise of one of the world's greatest conquerors, Alexander the Great. It also traces his spread of Greek culture throughout his massive empire, and the development of Hellenism that resulted. There are a total of 27 narrative questions with fill in the blank answers that span the 45 minute video. The narrative question format is designed to focus and engage the students throughout the video, and to allow for followup discussion. Included is a teachers key with answers and time codes for starting and stopping the video at each of the major sections. This is an excellent activity to cover Alexander the Great and the development of Western Civilization. It can also be effectively integrated throughout the unit as needed.
