It can be difficult to engaged students at the end of year, but seniors are by the most difficult to keep engaged as senioritis comes around. I believe that it is not productive to have them sit for a written exam in an English class. So, I created a project based final that my seniors complete.
This project will assess students on what they have learned throughout the year, focusing specifically on skills that you have been evaluated on throughout the year. We start the preparation by making a massive list of the skills that they have learned this year. It is very student lead and student centered.
This is a project based final exam that includes writing and presenting elements. It allows the seniors to make a lot of choice but to also reflect on the year behind them.
This could be used in a general education classroom or AP course after the exam. It is very flexible and open.
