This political document critical reading is a great exercise for any history or politics unit. It can be used as an in-class activity that gives way to a discussion and/or exploration of U.S. History during the time of the colonies and Revolutionary War, as this document inspired the writers of our revolutionary documents.
Interactive, Colorful, and Engaging!
Students are asked to:
1. First, complete the Background Information reading.
2. Next, make a prediction about the document based on the Wordle.
3. Next, read the document with your group and summarize your portion. You will listen to others present their portions and take notes on this page.
4. Lastly, reflect on what you learned.
Students are thus: READING, PREDICTING, ANALYZING, COLLABORATING WITH A TEAM, LISTENING to one another, NOTE-TAKING, and finally REFLECTING on what they have learned.
Not only will this encourage student engagement of English Parliament, the U.S. Colonies, and Revolutionary War, but will improve your students skills, set a high expectation for rigor in the classroom, and set your students up for success when collaborating and working as a team.
