Students review the events from the English Civil War to the Glorious Revolution by completing a timeline activity and answering 4 questions. There are 27 items for students to place on the timeline which they must also classify according to a system detailed in the instructions. They have one task to complete for 8 items of their choice, and another task to complete for 4 other items of their choice. All instructions are provided in the handout. There are arrows in the first two lines of the timeline showing students the direction in which to fill out the pieces. The answers are included and this could work for a sub!
Sample timeline items and questions include:
--Charles summoned Parliament
--Scottish Calvinists revolted
--Oliver Cromwell took charge of the Roundheads
--Battle of Naseby
--Puritan morals established in society
--James II took the throne as a staunch Catholic
--William and Mary accepted the English Bill of Rights
--Identify and explain what you think most caused the English Civil War.
--What were the names of the two sides of the war, and what types of people made up each side? Which one do you think you would have sided with and why?
***a teacher's note is included in the file describing an alternate way students can complete this activity***
