This is what I give to my grade 10's - we teach them "inferencing skills" every year, as our first mini unit, the help them work on their analysis skills.
This goes through different types of inferencing - visual / context clues / passage
-what is an inference?
-a picture of feet (!!!) and what you can tell about the person based on these feet
-a "great garbage" mystery inferencing practice
-two examples of inferencing practice from a passage
NOTE - the last example on the second page is intense - be aware of this if you're doing it with an immature/sensitive group because it talks about Jim Jones and the mass suicide that took place. With older groups this can spark an engaging class discussion.
