Thank you for taking a few moments to read about my teaching materials. This lesson is my approach to Interrogative and Demonstrative Pronouns. You can use the lesson as your guide for a classroom presentation or simply as a handout that your students can use.
What is included?
Although, I have an entire grammar school year in place that would work for middle school or high school, right now, I am only uploading a few lessons. These lessons work individually and you will be able to use them separately. These lessons include the following things:
~~ The full grammar lesson with extra notes, applicable grammar charts and actual step-by-step instructions to locate different parts of speech when possible.
~~ “How do I Know When I’ve Studied Enough?” review checklist; a checklist that can be used by a parent to ensure understanding or by a student to ‘self-check’.
~~ Two pages of Test-Taking Tips; general tips for preparing for a test.
Please check out the free lesson: Prepositional Phrases and Its Parts and see if this approach is something that could benefit your students.
Additional General Information:
Several years ago, I took over a middle school English position at a private school with a 90% Mexican student body in the San Diego area and discovered that my students were struggling in grammar. I searched for grammar textbooks, or supplements, that could help them but was unsuccessful. So, I created my own.
I have uploaded several of the lessons that show my unique approach to grammar. I have used my system successfully for years and have assessed their progress through my classroom tests, our yearly school-wide standardized test, and most importantly, my students score well on the entrance exam for private high schools and transition into their high school class easily. I know it works for me and my students, and I am optimistic that it will translate well to your classroom.
My approach to grammar was able to accomplish certain things that I have never seen in other grammar books:
~~ In many lessons, I was able to provide actual step-by-step instruction to help locate different parts of speech.
~~ Lessons include “Extra Notes” that help students identify the different parts of speech more consistently.
~~ Chapters are organized to show how lessons work together instead of by subject, and the lessons are repeated multiple times throughout the year.
~~ Every chapter includes a checklist that a student, or a parent with no grammar skills, can use to see if they’re prepared.
~~ Homework assignments build on each other and are constantly reviewing previous lessons.
~~ Homework assignments are designed in a way that allows teachers the flexibility to increase the difficulty for more advanced students or decrease the difficulty for students that struggle with grammar even though they’re in the same classroom.
