This is a PPT game that has always worked very well for me. It is about 20 English idioms and their figurative meanings. The Super Mario Bros theme and basic template came from a former co-worker, but all the material is mine. The game begins when a student from one team chooses a character from the home screen and views an English idiom. If they are able to choose the correct meaning, they can choose one of the pipes. There are 5 possible outcomes: get points, steal points, go back to zero, teams switch points, and both teams go back to zero. The game is rigged for maximum scoring and excitement, but since only one pipe can be chosen per slide they will have no idea. After they choose their pipe there is a slide with a little information about the idiom, and then Mario pops up to take you back to the home screen. Whichever team has the highest score when the last character disappears is the winner! If you found this lesson useful, be sure to check out some of the others at ESL In Asia
. Good luck!
