Students will respond to the driving question in this Problem Based Learning Unit, William Shakespeare has been called the greatest writer of the English language. He lived during a very different time, yet his plays are still popular today. How and why is William Shakespeare and his plays still relevant today?

Students will participate in 5 stations helping them to understand Shakespeare's play on words, the debate over who the author of the plays really was, the Globe theater, Shakespeare's life and comparing and contrasting scenes from a graphic novel and a live performance. After completing all these activities and their own research they will create a presentation of their choice to answer the driving question.

Included in the unit is a tic tac toe board which can be used as an anchor activity or a guided lesson. The activities encourage students to watch a performance of Romeo and Juliet or A Midsummer Night's Dream. Teachers can show these performances to students or encourage them to watch independently. 6 of the activities can be applied to any play, 2 are based on Romeo and Juliet and 1 is connected to A Midsummer Night's Dream.
