Common Core Aligned game to play prior to the E.L.A. State Test. It's the year in review and well worth playing. It's an easy game to play, high interest, and targets every standard I could possibly include. Since the test comes weeks before school is out, and before we could possibly teach the entire curriculum, I have included everything I could to ensure the students are, at minimum, exposed to every concept in the CCS. It opens opportunities for discussion/review/clarification regarding each CCS.
How to play:
Project the PowerPoint presentation, making sure everyone can see the projection; I have students take turns reading the questions aloud to the whole class.
The students then work together, in pairs or small groups, and keep track of answers they get correct as we play the game. (They make tally marks in the corner of their mini white boards.) I have to circle around and give "the thumbs up" if they get to put a tally mark down. At the end of each session - approx. 30 minutes each day - I pay them "Green Auction Bucks" (or I use tickets). When testing is completely over, I have an "auction" of prizes, baked goods, etc. They use their auction bucks/tickets to "buy" things. It's a special way to celebrate all they have learned and the end of testing. It's fun for all of us and helps reduce anxiety (for teachers, too). Happy Reviewing!
P.S. We had snow days and all sort of interruptions; I am doing this in 5.5 school days this year! We are having a blast!
