This lesson, a SIOP Model (Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol) is designed to support young English Language Learners. I taught this lesson to a small group of Kindergarten ELL students. I used the book, "Owl Moon." In this lesson I previewed vocabulary words with students and students listened to the story.
In the lesson provide step-by-step instructions and sections such as prior knowledge and vocabulary.
In the follow-up lesson (also for sale), students created sketches of what they saw and heard in the story. Tier 1 and 2 vocabulary words included.
For ELL students of all levels (1-5), this lesson is a great way to engage your kids! It's a very low-pressure lesson, which as a result, encourages students to take risks and truly acquire vocabulary.
*Includes my personal reflection of the lesson so that you can anticipate potential questions to consider before teaching*
