I created these posters to use for my classroom use for English Mechanics with Children’s books. These ‘posters’ can be used with any children’s book that you have in your classroom, library, or any other readers you may use.
The way I use these: I copied these ‘posters’ to color paper, laminated, and hot glued to jumbo craft sticks. I only have 7 kids in my classroom during my reading instruction, so I let them pick a stick. We are now in the spiral review stage so they are very familiar with all these English Mechanics. Then, they look at the word on the front of their ‘poster’ and have the opportunity to ask questions to refresh their memory if they’re not sure what they’re listening for. When they hear their ‘poster’s vocab word’ they hold their stick up. It takes about two times of reading to establish the rules. Also, remind them not to make a big deal when they hold their poster up, or the story line will be too jumbled. I will warn you, you may want to prepare yourself and read the book before you do this activity just so you can write notes to know where there will ‘posters’ held up. The kids LOVE this and look forward to this time. Depending on your classroom size you could always make multiple prints. Say you have 15 students and studying verbs, you could make 15 verb posters so it could make it easier on you. It’s really however works best for you!! I hope you enjoy this.
