This poster is effective in getting students to imagine what poetry means to them. I usually start teaching the poetry unit in my high school English classes using this poster. This enables a class discussion about what a poem is both objectively and subjectively. After listening to each and every student in class what it is like for them to read a poem, I introduce a poem for a class analysis. Thus, this poster could be up the wall as a springboard for discussion and further learning. Apart from discussion, I also ask them to write what a poem means to them on another blank poster next to it and present their explanation about their statement regarding a poem.
