Looking for a way to incorporate independent reading and make it fun? This variety of assessments will get your students thinking, making connections with their novels, and using their creativity.
This packet of 10 projects is designed for students to create a product for an independent reading book. Ideally this product would be made outside of class. I have used this for freshman English, but it can be used for grades 6 - 12 to assess students. I have used this all year long and had students each create 4 projects with 4 different books.
When I teach independent reading I post the links on my class web site and also create a blog using Blogspot for students to post and share projects (projects able to be posted online).
There is an add-on called a QR code in which students create an image for other students to scan and learn about the book. Teachers can post the QR codes on a bulletin board, and during silent reading students can scan codes with their phones to learn more. Each project also comes with a rubric.
The following projects are included in this file:
1. Book Review
2. Book Talk
3. Book Trailer - uses multimedia
- Windows version
- Mac version
- Prezi and other online media versions
4. Author Letter
5. Opinion Column
7. Organization Critique
8. Real Life Application - uses research
9. Scene recreation - uses multimedia
10. Web page - uses multimedia
11. QR Code directions
