This engaging and interactive lesson includes both a Teacher PowerPoint with answer key and an accompanying Student Handout. The lesson begins with a “Do Now” class discussion based upon a famous quote from the renowned Enlightenment Philosopher Voltaire. Afterwards, students are assigned a brief summary of one of the following Enlightenment Philosophers - Montesquieu, Rousseau or Adam Smith. Students will then engage in a cooperative learning “Reciprocal Teaching Activity” where they will be expected to teach their partners what they learned. The lesson concludes with a “Summary Activity” where the ideas of Montesquieu and Rousseau are applied to the policies at their school.
