In this activity, students utilize the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy to research information about seven Enlightenment philosophers. The chart is partially completed for students, and they must utilize information from the online encyclopedia in order to figure out which philosopher is described in each column and to fill in the blanks on the chart.
The chart covers information about the following philosophers: Denis Diderot, Thomas Hobbes, Thomas Jefferson, John Locke, Baron de Montesquieu, Jean Jacques Rousseau, and Voltaire. Information on the chart includes the philosophers' major beliefs as well as their major works of writing.
