This resource is designed to be used in conjunction with the Enlightenment Salon project where students discuss Enlightenment ideas acting as thinkers of the time. I love this project and my students do too! Just the other day a student commented to me how much she learned from that discussion!
Two years ago, after finishing the salon with my World History students, I felt like something was missing. They had a great discussion but what were they taking away from that? How could I assess whether they learned anything? How could I quiz them on the Enlightenment if they had nothing from the salon to study from? I created this worksheet and for the past two years, it has worked great! Now I can see them actively listening to their peers, asking more questions, and really trying to understand the topics for discussion. It also gives me something to grade and assess for some of the quieter students who can now show me that they are paying attention even though they’ll speak less frequently. Since I started using this resource, I’ve had some of the best salon discussions I’ve ever seen. Students are focused, participatory, asking great questions, and really gaining a lot from the discussion. It works!!
Included in this resource:
