Product Description
This packet is designed to give to parents before their child enters Kindergarten, 1st, or 2nd grade. The Kindergarten pages list ideas for how to help their child with letters, words, and beginning comprehension. It also includes a list of books age appropriate for beginning reading and/or reading aloud to the child.
The first grade pages have one required assignment and ways parents can help their child along their literary journey. There are two book lists - one for reading independently and one for reading together.
The second grade pages require the students to read 3 Frog and Toad books. There are summaries of the books required to read. There is also a grade-level appropriate book list with suggestions of books students entering second grade would be able to read.
The third grade packet has two required assignments. Assignment #1 is to read Frindle by Andrew Clements. The other is to pick one book from the book list to read (with follow-up activities planned when school resumes in the Fall). The book list contains titles of books at third grade instructional level.
The fourth grade packet has information for parents of students entering fourth grade. There three required assignments. Assignment #1 is to read any Chet Gecko book. The second assignment is to read Love That Dog. Both of those books have a follow-up activity that is also required. The last assignment is to pick one book from the book list to read and write a one page summary. The book list contains titles of books at fourth grade instructional level.
This last packet has information for parents of students entering fifth grade. There two required assignments. Assignment #1 is to read No Talking by Andrew Clements. The second assignment is to pick one book from the book list to read and write a one page summary. The book list contains titles of books at fifth grade instructional level.
Students entering sixth grade have two required assignments. Assignment #1 is to read Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry by Mildred Taylor and complete a follow-up written assignment. The second assignment is to pick one book from the book list to read and write a one page summary. The book list contains titles of books at sixth grade instructional level.
This is what our school used as summer reading homework.
