The concept behind the RPS program is that every year it seems as if my students score lowest in the area of determining the meaning of unfamiliar words (context clues and word origins).
In order to combat against this I created three different programs.
In my first RPS version (Level 2) I chose the top 260 reoccurring roots and prefixes used them create "RPS Lists" (Root, Prefix, Suffix)
I then took those words and plugged them into high interest nonfiction articles and added context clues into those articles.
Finally, I turned those words into multiple choice quizzes.
Every Monday my students get a new "RPS List" of prefix and root words and their definitions.
Every Wednesday my students read an article with those words and use context clues to match the words to the definitions.
Every Friday my students take an "RPS Quiz" on the word list of the week.
The next year I felt that my students needed more a challenge so I created RPS version #2 or Level 3
RPS level 3 is run almost identically to version one, but at a much higher level.
This year I needed to lower the level more than the medium level so I created a Level 1 version of the RPS program.
