Project based learning to engage, support and challenge all students!
For this project you will need some coloured blocks either unified or lego.
Objective: To create the next big thing in the toy world. Their goal is for their toy to be sold in all the major department stores and end up the number one must have toy this Christmas.
Within this project students will be designing, creating, marketing and pitching their product to the board of directors of a major toy company, shark tank style!
When I teach this project I use FLIP learning to target my teaching allowing for all students to work at their own pace and attain greater success. This project covers a wide variety of math concepts including:
- four operations
-3d shapes and their nets
- converting measurements
- calculating elapsed time
- calculating discounts
- Enlarging and reducing images
In addition to the math tasks you can enrich the project by:
Writing and publishing a procedural text explaining how to create the toy for the factory workers
Using persuasive devices to design and create the toy box
Writing and creating an advertisement for the toy this may be a poster, radio advertisement or TV advertisement
Writing, creating practicing and delivering a 2 minute pitch where they use statistics and other persuasive device to convince the board of directors of a major toy company to invest and stock your toy (great speaking and listening assessment)
Writing a reflection on the project including things they enjoyed, challenges they had, how they overcame them and most importantly what they learned and what they would still like to work on
