Students in my classroom have shown a heightened interest in taking care of the environment. They are interested about saving energy, combatting pollution, reducing, re-using and recycling! Due to this interest, I have decided to create an integrated unit to educate students about the environment that surrounds us and facilitate their learning of how to care for and protect our environment. In this unit, students will be encouraged to think critically about what human crafted products we use in our everyday life comes from our natural surroundings. Students will be immersed in the outdoors, and will be exposed to hands-on learning activities to strengthen the authenticity of the learning process.
Big Ideas/Key Questions:
The big idea of this unit is “We are earth savers: We help make the Environment a Healthier Place!”
Essential question: How can we improve the environment? How can we make it a better, healthier place for people and animals to live?
This unit includes a series of 9 lessons and activity pages to get your students thinking about how they can have an impact on the environment and be "Earth Savers!"
Lesson Topics Include:
- Learning about the Environment (man made and nature made objects)
- Reducing, Re-using and Recycling
- Conserving Water
- Saving Trees
- Action Plans
I hope your children enjoy learning about the environment just as much as mine do!
