Happy Earth Day! Feliz dia de la tierra!
This product contains 4 pages of bilingual vocabulary in both Spanish and English, designed and ready to inspire your students to be caring stewards of the earth. Included is one page formatted for the document camera or smart board with a student example as well as 6 pages of teacher viewing and reading suggestions and unit plan ideas. Your students are in control to select the vocabulary that is meaningful to their lives and they will love writing and expressing themselves in Spanish about the environment and the global ecology.
Line poems are format poems where the words have been selected to convey a message about a current issue; in this case the global environment. The supplied vocabulary is taken from a variety of articles and literature which were used as support material for my class ecology unit.
If you have never taught a thematic unit in Spanish, begin small and add something new each year as you have the opportunity to adapt these materials to fit your own style. In this product you will also find a short list of examples of literature and websites that were used in our units. This environmental line poem is intended for use as a culminating activity of a 6 week environmental unit for learners of Spanish or Heritage speakers, however it is adaptable to any part of your ecology lesson.
Since the 80's a reoccurring theme in world issues and subsequently children and young adult literature is that of the global environment; the care of the planet, the conservation of wildlife and the habitat and conservation of our natural resources. Young people today have a lot to say about their world but do not always have a format with which to express themselves. When given the opportunity to discuss the issue of the environment, students do possess a profound, social conscience and can make powerful statements in Spanish.
What is your passion? If you would like to have other supporting activities, combine this line poem activity with Maestra Mapache's environmental PowerPoint and brainstorming ecology worksheets in preparation for reading comprehension and conversations in Spanish. As always, Maestra Mapache has first created these activities and used in her own classroom. Secondly these activities are designed to be adaptable to any of your lesson units.
This line poem lesson may be purchased individually or bundled with my environmental vocabulary list and PowerPoint ecology presentation.
