My 5th graders wrote an environmental policy during our environmental impact and sharing the planet unit in inquiry/science. Before this my students made their own 3D geometric city and included an aspect of their city that assisted in making the city sustainable, in regards to the environment, society, and economy. The written environmental policy was the extension to this project.
My students used this graphic organizer to help scaffold the organization of writing their environmental policy for a business in their city. I used this front and back, so they had an example of what should be in each section and then were able to write their own on the other. From here, my students were easily able to write their final policy, using the information on their organizer.
