In this activity students will create a food web for the Mojave Desert using pictures of organisms and a description of the flow of energy throughout the web. Next, when given certain situations, students will interpret the effects of man-made and natural influences on the web and will predict the possible consequences for the web. Finally, students will devise a solution to lessen or reverse the effects of one situation for Objective 2.
This activity includes teacher and student instructions, thumbnail
pictures of desert food web organisms, how energy flows throughout the web, and scenarios for students to evaluate.
This activity can be adapted for younger age groups by removing some organisms from the web.
