This lesson is a great introduction to the unique chemical and physical properties of water and some more detailed steps of the water cycle. The web-quest and interactive lab will make this topic fun and easy!
Topics include: Unique properties of water (cohesion, adhesion, neutral pH, capillary action, surface tension, hydrogen bonding, polarity, density of liquid and solid water) and water cycle (precipitation, evaporation, condensation, infiltration, percolation, runoff, transpiration, evapotranspiration)
This lesson is designed to facilitate independent learning and is ideal for a sub plan or simply to encourage self-instruction of basic concepts. If independent learning isn't your goal, it still fits perfectly into a teacher-directed curriculum.
Included in this product:
1. Lesson plan overview for teacher with links to all content materials
2. Student worksheets with vocabulary and discussion questions to use during web-quest
3. Teacher directions, student worksheets, lab station cards, and pictures for "Properties of Water Lab"
4. A quiz to assess major concepts learned during this lesson
Ready to spend more time practicing concepts, doing activities and labs with your class and less time droning on about vocabulary and basic ideas? So are your students! Start flipping your classroom!
What's a flipped classroom?
In a flipped science classroom, students independently gain vocabulary and basic concepts through internet webquests and videos. Then, in a teacher-guided lab activity, students are able to practice these concepts and see them come to life in real environments.
But I don't have a flipped classroom. Can I still use this product?
Absolutely! Your students can just do the independent learning and web-quests on the first day or two, then follow with the activity/lab the following day! The independent learning days are also great for subs!

. All 7 of these lessons are designed for a flipped classroom, but are easily adapted for any science teacher interested in a hands-on, project-based approach to learning.
This curriculum is ideally geared towards high school students, but is appropriate for any student looking for an independent, student-centered approach to learning. The lessons may be used as part of a complete curriculum, but they also work great for independent learners or substitute plans.
Here is a list of all my flipped classroom Environmental Science lessons:
Environmental Science: Spheres of the Earth
Environmental Science: Ecology
Environmental Science: Population Growth
Environmental Science: Species
Environmental Science: Aquatic Ecosystems
Environmental Science: Relationships & Energy Flow
Environmental Science: Communities & Succession
Environmental Science: World Biomes
These lessons are designed to be easy to use for both students and teachers. Regardless of whether you've taught Environmental Science for years or just need a quick lesson to add to your science curriculum, this is the perfect selection.
This is a very thorough, engaging set of lessons. Your students will thank you!
